Dr Oliver Brain is a Consultant Gastroenterologist based and Clinical Director of the Gastroenterology, Endoscopy and Hepatology department at Oxford University Hospitals NHS FT. He practises at the John Radcliffe Hospital and Horton Hospital within Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust, and at Nuffield Health The Manor Hospital. His clinical practice covers the full spectrum of gastroenterology, including diagnostic assessment and endoscopic investigation of gastrointestinal conditions.

Dr Brain completed his undergraduate medical training at St Bartholomew’s and The Royal London Medical School in 2000. He undertook postgraduate training in Gastroenterology and Internal Medicine at the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford. His academic training includes a DPhil focused on the function of Crohn’s disease susceptibility genes, carried out at the Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine and the Translational Gastroenterology Unit in Oxford.

He has a subspecialist interest in inflammatory bowel disease and leads a virtual anti-TNF clinic aimed at optimising biologic therapy. His research activity focuses on mechanisms of gastrointestinal inflammation, including cancer immunotherapy-associated enterocolitis, and he acts as a principal investigator for clinical trials evaluating emerging treatments. Dr Brain has authored over 50 peer-reviewed publications and textbook chapters.

Dr Brain is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and a member of the British Society of Gastroenterology and the European Crohn’s and Colitis Organisation. He is an Honorary Senior Lecturer with the University of Oxford, contributing to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching. He is on the specialist register with the General Medical Council and is recognised by major UK health insurers.
