Die Anerkennung als Facharzt für Orthopädie erlangte Dr. med. Kirgis im Jahr 1987.
Dr. med. Kirgis engagiert sich in der medizinischen Ausbildung und Lehre. Er ist als Member of Faculty und Senior Instructor für "non fusion Techniken" an der Wirbelsäule (Implantation von Bandscheibenendoprothesen und Fusionen) tätig und teilt sein Wissen und seine Expertise mit angehenden Orthopäden. Darüber hinaus hat er mehr als 50 wissenschaftliche Artikel und Publikationen veröffentlicht und trägt aktiv zur Weiterentwicklung seines Fachgebietes bei.
