About Mr Abdul El-Khayat
Mr Abdul El-Khayat is a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon based at Nuffield Health Taunton Hospital and Musgrove Park Hospital, Taunton. He studied medicine at the University of Bristol before undertaking seven years of ophthalmic surgical training in the East Midlands. Following this, he completed two vitreoretinal surgery fellowships, one in Leicester and another at the Birmingham and Midland Eye Centre, one of the largest ophthalmology units in the UK. His specialist expertise includes cataract surgery, where he manages both straightforward and complex cases and provides premium lens implants to reduce astigmatism and the need for glasses. He also treats posterior capsule opacification with YAG laser, and offers medical retinal therapies such as laser treatment and intravitreal injections for conditions including age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal vein occlusion and macular oedema. In addition, he performs surgical retina procedures including vitrectomy and laser for epiretinal membranes, macular holes, floaters, retinal detachment and diabetic eye disease, while also providing care across general ophthalmology. Alongside his clinical practice, Mr El-Khayat is actively involved in medical education. He is the Clinical Teaching Lead for medical students in ophthalmology at Musgrove Park Hospital and serves as both a clinical and educational supervisor for ophthalmic specialty trainees. His research includes published work on retinal detachment and cataract surgery in peer-reviewed journals.
"Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions."
