Dr Abdul Aslam Syed is a Consultant Psychiatrist specialising in the assessment and treatment of mental health conditions in adults of working age. He is currently a visiting consultant at Priory Wellbeing Centre Bristol, where he provides expert care and management for a range of psychiatric disorders. With two decades of experience in psychiatry, he is dedicated to delivering high-quality, evidence-based treatment tailored to the needs of his patients.
Dr Syed obtained his medical degree (MBBS) from Osmania University, India, in 2001 before moving to the UK in 2004. He initially worked as a senior house officer in psychiatry before joining the psychiatric training scheme in the Northern Deanery, Scotland, followed by higher specialist training in the West Midlands Deanery, Birmingham. His academic achievements include an MSc in Neuropsychiatry from the University of Birmingham, MRCPsych from the Royal College of Psychiatrists, and a Diploma in Clinical Psychiatry from Ireland. Additionally, he has completed specialist training in ADHD assessments and medication management through the UK Adult ADHD Network (UKAAN).
Dr Syed has extensive experience in diagnosing and managing a wide range of psychiatric conditions, including depression, anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), schizophrenia, personality disorders, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). He also provides care for individuals with autism, ADHD, adjustment disorders, sleep disorders, and stress-related conditions. His approach is patient-centred, focusing on evidence-based interventions to enhance mental well-being and quality of life.
Beyond clinical practice, Dr Syed has been involved in research projects aimed at improving mental health outcomes. He was a co-investigator in the Recovering Quality of Life research project, which explored factors affecting recovery from severe psychiatric illness. Additionally, he contributed to research at the National Centre for Mental Health (NCMH), investigating genetic, social, and environmental influences on long-term psychiatric conditions.
