Der Münchner Kinderarzt Univ. Prof. Dr. med. Dr. h.c. mult. Theodor Hellbrügge (1919 – 2014) gründete 1968 das weltweit erste sozialpädiatrische Zentrum in München und legte den Grundstein in Deutschland für die Behandlung von Kindern mit Entwicklungsstörungen und Mehrfachbehinderungen. Inspiriert wurde er dabei durch seine Arbeit mit Nachsorgemodellen für Kinder mit extremer Frühgeburtlichkeit und zur Behandlung von Kindern mit genetischen Syndromen oder chronischen Erkrankungen. Das Team aus qualifizierten Fachkräften sorgt für die optimale Versorgung und Therapie der Patient*innen und der Familien, wenn Entwicklungsverzögerungen, körperlichen und geistigen Behinderungen und chronischen Erkrankungen auftreten. Ziel ist es dabei stets, einen aktiven und selbstbestimmten Alltag umzusetzen. Dabei stehen nicht nur die medizinische Betreuung und Behandlung im Fokus, im KBO Kinderzentrum geht es zudem um Zuversicht, Begleitung und Akzeptanz. Mehr als 50 Jahre Erfahrung in der Sozialpädiatrie und ein einzigartiges Behandlungsspektrum in Deutschland, machen die Einrichtung zum Vorreiter des Fachbereichs.
