She then went on to gain orthopaedic surgery expertise during her time in a number of hospitals across NSW including St George Hospital and Liverpool Hospital, becoming a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) as well as the Australian Orthopaedic Association in 2015. Dr Yong has also completed hand surgery fellowships at St Luke's Hospital, Sydney Hospital, and the Chelsea & Westminster NHS Foundation Trust in the UK.
Dr Yong understands the importance of hand function having had a background in music and learning piano at the University of Adelaide's Conservatorium of Music.
