Full Bio Dr Sam Barke is the Head of Sports Medicine at Meliora Medical, with a specialist clinical focus on adolescent athletes and the assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of concussion. He is known for his clear, evidence-based approach and for supporting young athletes and their families through recovery and return to sport. Dr Barke has worked extensively across both elite and grassroots sport. His roles have included England Rugby academy doctor, match-day doctor for Harlequins and London Irish, lead doctor for the Rosslyn Park National School 7s, and medical officer for the International Weightlifting Federation. He has also been part of the medical teams at major international events, including the Commonwealth Games, the World Athletics Championships and the World Triathlon Series. Over the past decade, Dr Barke has played a key role in advancing the understanding and management of concussion in children and adolescents. He regularly presents nationally and internationally on sports-related head injuries and is committed to improving safety and education in community sport. His work has featured in The Times, Rugby World, BT Sport and BBC News. Dr Barke completed his medical training at King's College, London. He undertook postgraduate surgical training with a focus on Trauma and Orthopaedics and spent over ten years working in young adult hip surgery. He also holds additional qualifications in Sports Medicine and Pre-Hospital Care.
