About

Mr Robert Peden is a Consultant Ophthalmologist specialising in oculoplastic, cataract, aesthetic, lacrimal and orbital surgery. He completed two advanced clinical fellowships at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge, and Moorfields Eye Hospital, London, and gained additional periocular aesthetic surgical experience at Moorfields Private and 152 Harley Street.

He provides bespoke structural, functional and aesthetic surgery of the eyelids, brows and mid-face, working closely with patients to achieve natural-looking cosmetic results. He performs upper and lower blepharoplasty surgery to reduce upper lid hooding and lower lid eyebags. His background as a specialist eye surgeon enables him to comprehensively assess the health of the eyes and surrounding structures, anticipate potential challenges and incorporate these considerations into detailed surgical planning.

Mr Peden performs effective, personalised cataract surgery for a wide range of patients, with access to cutting edge lens designs, including AI-designed spiral multifocal technology to optimise vision at a range of distances while minimising glare and halos. He provides toric lenses where needed to minimise astigmatism.

He studied Physiological Sciences at the University of Oxford, specialising in neuroscience and achieving 93% in the neuroscience First Public Examination. He then completed graduate entry medicine at the University of London, scoring in the 98th centile in the Medical Schools Admissions Test and gaining distinctions in ophthalmology and orthopaedics.

His postgraduate training at the Princess Alexandra Eye Pavilion, Edinburgh provided comprehensive experience across clinical and surgical ophthalmology, with a focus on oculoplastic and cataract surgery. He ranked second in the UK in the final FRCOphth exit examination. He then undertook a Senior Clinical Fellowship at Cambridge University Hospitals (Addenbrooke’s), gaining advanced expertise in oculoplastic, lacrimal and orbital surgery as well as further training in routine and complex cataract procedures. At Moorfields Eye Hospital, he completed an advanced surgical fellowship, developing extensive clinical and operative experience in disorders of the eyelids, tear ducts, eye sockets and mid-face, alongside training in botulinum toxin treatments and periocular aesthetic surgery.

Mr Peden is actively involved in teaching and training. He serves as an assessor and clinical supervisor for the Royal College of Ophthalmologists and provides postgraduate clinical and surgical training to registrars and fellows. He has taught at the Universities of Cambridge, Edinburgh, London (UCL and Barts), St Andrews and Dundee, as well as on the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh’s Master of Surgery in Clinical Ophthalmology and Master of Science in Primary Care Ophthalmology programmes, and numerous clinical and surgical courses.

Mr Peden has published in leading journals and presented his work internationally. He is also a reviewer for Eye (Nature's ophthalmology journal), the International Journal of Surgery, the British Medical Journal Case Reports, and the Journal of International Medical Research.

Mr Peden is actively involved in national and international charity work. He is the Hospitaller for St John Scotland, a charity with a range of charitable operations both in Scotland and overseas. He is also the Scottish Chair for the St John Ophthalmic Association, supporting charitable international education, and in particular the work of the St John Eye Hospital Group, providing specialist eye care in Jerusalem, Gaza and the West Bank. In recognition of his charitable work, Mr Peden was made an Officer of the Order of St John (OStJ).

“Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions.”
