Professor Raphael Hau is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with over two decades of experience in the treatment and management of local and overseas hip and knee problems. Professor Hau is well versed in Orthopaedic procedures such as Hip replacement surgery, ACL Reconstruction, Knee arthroscopy, and knee joint replacement. He sees private patients at the Epworth Eastern Hospital.



After graduating from Melbourne University in 1992, Raphael undertook internship training at Heidelberg Repatriation Hospital. He then worked in Hong Kong for 2 years as an orthopaedic resident before he returned to Melbourne. He started his Orthopaedic training program in 2000 and during this time, he worked at major Melbourne hospitals including The Alfred and The Austin Hospitals as well as working in country hospitals like Bendigo and Shepparton.

After completing specialist surgical training and gaining recognition as a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, Raphael completed a Trauma Fellowship at the Austin & Repatriation Medical Centre in Heidelberg, Victoria. He then undertook further overseas fellowship training in knee surgery at Avon Orthopaedic Centre at Southmead Hospital, Bristol, United Kingdom followed by a lower limb arthroplasty fellowship in British Columbia, Canada to further his subspecialty experience in joint replacements. During this period, Raphael gained important expertise in complex hip and knee replacements and revision replacements.

Upon his return to Melbourne Raphael commenced work as a specialist orthopaedic surgeon with public hospital appointment at Box Hill Hospital.

In 2007 Raphael opened his own practice at Epworth Eastern in Box Hill. Raphael consults regularly at Epworth Eastern and Ringwood Private Hospital and operates at Epworth Eastern and Adeney in Kew. 

Raphael is the Clinical Director of Orthopaedics at Eastern Health.
