Mr Bruno Lorenzi is a Consultant General, Upper Gastrointestinal and Robotic Surgeon with over a decade of experience in both the NHS and private practice. He specialises in minimally invasive (laparoscopic - key hole) and robotic surgery for a range of upper GI conditions, including hernias, gallstones, acid reflux, large hiatus hernias, oesophageal and gastric cancers, as well as bariatric (weight loss) surgery.
Mr Lorenzi graduated with honours from the University of Siena in Italy and has undertaken advanced training at leading centres in the USA (Cleveland Clinic, Florida), France (Institut Paoli-Calmettes, Marseille), and the UK (Oxford Radcliffe University Hospitals, St James’ University Hospital Leeds, The Royal Marsden Hospital, and Imperial College London).
He currently practises general and upper GI surgery at Broomfield Hospital (NHS) and Springfield Hospital in Chelmsford (private), where he also performs weight loss procedures. His work in robotic surgery is based at Broomfield Hospital (NHS) and The Wellington Hospital in London (private), where he has pioneered complex robotic procedures.
In 2014, Mr Lorenzi was part of the team that performed the UK’s first robotic gastric bypass, and in 2015, he carried out the country’s first robotic gastrectomy for gastric cancer. He is now recognised as one of the UK’s leading surgeons in robotic treatment for complex hiatus hernias and anti-reflux conditions.
Alongside his clinical practice, Mr Lorenzi holds a PhD in gastrointestinal surgical oncology, awarded through a joint programme between the University of Siena and Oxford. He has published widely in peer-reviewed journals, speaks regularly at national and international conferences, and has taught minimally invasive and robotic surgery at Anglia Ruskin University, Imperial College London, and the University of Calabria in Italy. He has also served as a Review Editor for the international journal Frontiers in Oncology.
