About Prof Jim Khan
Professor Jim Khan is a general and emergency colorectal cancer surgeon specialising in robotic and laparoscopic bowel cancer surgery. He has over 25 years of experience and treats a wide range of disorders affecting the small intestine, colon, and rectum. Prof. Khan graduated in 1996 before specialising in general surgery. He undertook basic surgical training in Scotland and gained a master's degree from Cardiff University. Following this, prof. Khan joined the Wessex surgical rotation for specialist registrar training in colorectal surgery. He gained experience in complex pelvic and rectal cancer surgery while working with Professor Heald at Basingstoke. He was awarded a UK National Laparoscopic Fellowship at Colchester in 2007, during which prof. Khan trained in advanced laparoscopic pelvic surgery. He then obtained a second travelling clinical fellowship, which enabled him to train at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester (US). He later travelled to Korea to train in advanced robotic surgery. He is actively involved in medical education and teaches a variety of courses. Additionally, he is co-director of VIMARS (Victory Institute of Minimal Access Robotic Surgery). He is a national and European trainer in robotic and laparoscopic surgery. He is also active in research and holds an honorary surgery position at the University of Portsmouth. Prof. Khan has published over 120 colorectal surgery papers. He is the primary investigator of several national and international trials and the director of several courses and the TME fellowship programme. Prof. Khan is married to a gynaecologist and has two children who are training to become doctors and aeronautical engineers. He plays cricket for a Romsey club. Golf, badminton, and jogging are his hobbies.
