About Dr Francesco Papalia
Dr Papalia is a Consultant Cardiologist with specialist expertise in heart failure and advanced cardiac imaging. He is based at St Bartholomew’s Hospital in London, a leading European centre for cardiac care, where he performs cardiac MRI and cardiac PET-CT imaging. In addition, he works at King George Hospital in Ilford, where he runs a dedicated heart failure clinic. He studied Medicine at Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry, completing an intercalated Bachelor of Medical Sciences degree in Molecular Therapeutics, graduating with multiple academic awards. During his postgraduate clinical training in London, he obtained Membership of the Royal College of Physicians. He later completed a PhD in Cardiovascular Sciences at King’s College London, supported by a British Heart Foundation Clinical Research Training Fellowship, with research focused on iron deficiency, cardiac metabolism, and heart failure. Dr Papalia remains actively involved in research and medical education. He has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals, presented at international conferences, and holds a position as Senior Lecturer at Queen Mary University of London, where he teaches and mentors students. He is a Fellow of the Heart Failure Association of the European Society of Cardiology and a Fellow of the British Cardiovascular Society.
