Dr Paviour graduated in Medicine from Guy's and St Thomas's Hospital Medical School. During his undergraduate degree, he won multiple prizes including the Medical School Gold Medal. He then went on to train in neurology at Oxford and London, primarily within The National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, King's College Hospital, and the Atkinson Morley Neuroscience Centre.

Dr Paviour has numerous publications in peer-reviewed journals, and the publication of several textbook chapters.
