He completed his specialist surgical training in general and upper GI surgery in the East Midlands, receiving his Fellowship from the Royal College of Surgeons in 2014 and his Certificate of Completion of Training in 2016.
Before joining Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Mr Tan completed an advanced oesophago-gastric fellowship at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge. He is skilled in both laparoscopic and open surgical techniques, focusing on complex oesophago-gastric conditions such as gastro-oesophageal reflux disease, hiatal hernias, and cancers of the oesophagus and stomach.
Alongside his clinical practice, Mr Tan contributes to surgical education by teaching online for the University of Edinburgh’s Masters of Surgical Sciences programme. He maintains an active research interest in nutrition and body composition and their impact on outcomes following oesophago-gastric cancer surgery.
