Dr Sufyan Hussain

Dr. Sufyan Hussain is a highly accomplished consultant Diabetes and Endocrine Physician at Guy's and St Thomas Hospitals, as well as an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at King's College London. With over 30 years of personal experience living with type 1 diabetes, Dr. Hussain brings a unique perspective and empathy to his clinical practice. In his work, Dr. Hussain focuses on various aspects of diabetes and endocrinology, including diabetes technology such as continuous glucose monitors, insulin pumps, and hybrid closed-loop systems. He is well-versed in the latest treatments for type 1 and type 2 diabetes, weight management, and addressing complications and mental health issues related to diabetes. Additionally, he specialises in thyroid disorders, Addison's disease, polycystic ovary syndrome, and managing diabetes during fasting periods like Ramadan or intermittent fasting. He also provides guidance on exercising with diabetes. Dr. Hussain actively contributes to the medical field through his involvement in professional organisations. He serves on the Board of Directors for the International Diabetes Federation Europe and is a committee member of the Diabetes Technology Network within the UK Association of British Clinical Diabetologists. He also participates in the NHS London Diabetes Strategic Clinical Network and is a member of the UK Secretary of State for Transport's Honorary Medical Advisory Panel on driving and diabetes. Dr. Sufyan Hussain obtained his medical degree from the University of Cambridge and completed his PhD at Imperial College London under the guidance of Professor Sir Steve Bloom, an esteemed researcher in the field. His postgraduate training in diabetes and endocrinology was undertaken within the renowned Imperial College rotation in London. Dr. Hussain has an impressive research portfolio, with over 50 published research papers and contributions to medical textbooks and guidelines that impact diabetes care both nationally and internationally.
