About
Renowned for his pioneering contributions, Dr. Wexner played a central role in establishing minimally invasive colorectal surgery as a global standard of care and has introduced numerous techniques that help patients avoid stoma formation. He has authored more than 1,200 peer-reviewed publications with over 41,000 citations, making him the most frequently cited living colorectal surgeon. He serves as Editor-in-Chief of Surgery and was the inaugural Chair of the National Accreditation Program for Rectal Cancer.
A committed educator, Dr. Wexner has trained and mentored more than 800 surgeons worldwide. He holds academic appointments at leading institutions across the globe, including an Honorary Professorship at University College London.
Dr. Wexner has served in numerous leadership positions within the American College of Surgeons, including as Regent and Vice-Chair of the Board of Regents. He is also a past president of the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons, its Research Foundation, the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery, and the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons. His global impact is further reflected in his honorary memberships and fellowships in more than 25 national and international societies, including all four Royal Colleges in the UK and Ireland.
