About Dr Steven Miller
Dr Steven Miller is the lead doctor at Dr Wayne Cottrell & Co. He is a highly experienced doctor, having worked for many years in adult and paediatric practice, in both an academic setting and in private medicine. He has postgraduate qualifications in General Medecine, infectious diseases, sexual health, HIV, and travel medicine and he has extensive experience in seeing patients of all age groups and with differing presentations, from minor to more complex presentations. Dr Miller completed his medical degree at the University of Witwatersrand, South Africa in 1977 followed by his Diploma in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene at the same university in 1982. In 1983, Dr Miller became a Fellow of the Faculty of Pathologists, College of Medicine of South Africa before pursuing his Master of Medicine (MMed) degree at the University of Witwatersrand, graduating in 1984. Dr Miller is a Member of the Royal College of Pathologists (UK) and holds a Diploma in HIV Medicine from the Worshipful Society of Apothecaries. Dr Miller’s postgraduate training took him overseas where he gained valuable experience in cardiothoracic surgery. After returning to Johannesburg, he joined the South African Institute for Medical Research and became qualified as a Clinical Microbiologist. He later practiced as a Consultant in Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases in private practice in Johannesburg and became a member of the Microbiology, Virology and Cell Culture Team at Lancet Laboratories. Dr Miller also held the position of Medical Director at the innovirInstitute, a registered trust dedicated to providing state-of-the-art laboratory diagnostics, clinical trial opportunities, and patient care services to individuals affected by HIV/AIDS. As he trained in South Africa and doesnt work in the NHS, he is unable to join the Perfomers List or be on the GP register, so he works under the GMC "approved practice setting" as he has equivalent experinience and his designated body is the Independant Doctors Federation, who he will be doing yearly appraisals with. As a founding member of the HIV Clinicians' Society of Southern Africa, Dr Miller has been at the forefront of shaping treatment guidelines for the management of HIV/AIDS. Dr Miller is committed to staying up-to-date with the latest advancements in medicine and has an evidence-based approach to all treatments he provides.
"Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions."
