About Dr Spyridon (Spyros) Gennatas
Dr Spyros Gennatas is a Consultant Medical Oncologist at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, specialising in thoracic cancers including lung cancer (small cell and all non-small cell subtypes), mesothelioma, and thymic epithelial tumours. He completed his specialty training at the Royal Marsden Hospital and holds a PhD from Imperial College London, where his research focused on the molecular genetics of thymic epithelial tumours. He has published widely in peer-reviewed journals and has presented his work at major international conferences, including in the areas of molecular oncology, cancer genomics, COVID-19 and cancer care, and quality of life research. His research interests include the development of novel therapeutic agents for thoracic cancers, the identification of predictive and prognostic biomarkers, and the advancement of personalised cancer care. He also has a strong interest in rare tumours, with ongoing clinical and academic work focused on improving outcomes for patients with rare malignancies such as thymic epithelial tumours and mesothelioma. He is further engaged in initiatives to promote equity and diversity in clinical trial recruitment and real-world research. Dr Gennatas is an invited Clinical Expert to the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) and is active in international organisations, including the Rare Tumours Committee of the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC) and the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO), where he contributes to the Sarcoma and Rare Cancers Scientific Committee. He remains very actively involved in postgraduate teaching and mentorship.
