Sein Status als Ordinarius an der Medizinischen Universität Wien und Primarius der Universitätsklinik für Urologie am AKH Wien macht ihn zum landesweiten Experten in allen Bereichen der onkologischen Urologie. Als Klinikleiter profitiert Dr. Shariat von einzigartigen diagnostischen und therapeutischen Möglichkeiten und kann modernste, zum Teil noch experimentelle Verfahren nutzen. Gemeinsam mit seinen Patienten und Patientinnen findet Dr. Shariat die beste Strategie und zieht neben der individuellen Diagnose eine ganzheitliche Betrachtung mit ein. Seine wissenschaftliche Tätigkeit fokussiert auf Erscheinungsformen und Auswirkungen von Blasenkrebs und Prostatakrebs. Dazu hat er in Fachjournalen über tausend Artikel publiziert, ist Mitglied von mehreren internationalen Editorial Boards und hat über 80 nationale und internationale Wissenschaftspreise gewonnen, darunter den EUA Matula Award 2014 der europäischen und das Gold Cystoscope 2017 der Amerikanischen Urologenvereinigung. Er hält vier Patente zur Behandlung von Blasen- und Prostatakrebs und ist beratender Fachexperte vieler wissenschaftlicher Gesellschaften.
