Orthopaedic Surgery
About
He completed his higher surgical training in Trauma and Orthopaedics in South Yorkshire before undertaking two prestigious international fellowships in Perth, Western Australia. During these fellowships, he trained with world-leading experts in shoulder and elbow surgery, gaining advanced experience in complex reconstructive techniques.
Mr MacInnes was awarded a PhD in 2017 investigating the genetic contribution to joint replacement failure. This work was undertaken in collaboration with the Wellcome Sanger Institute in Cambridge and the Norwegian Arthroplasty Registry. His research was recognised with the Otto Aufranc Award, presented by the American Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons in recognition of excellence in orthopaedic research.
He is currently the Deputy Clinical Director for Trauma and Orthopaedics at Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
A passionate educator, Mr MacInnes served as Head of Training in Trauma and Orthopaedics in Doncaster for six years, during which time he was awarded Trainer of the Year in South Yorkshire. He is also an invited expert consultant who teaches orthopaedic consultants from across Europe, with a particular focus on shoulder replacement (including techniques using GPS computer navigation). He also teaches consultants advanced arthroscopic (keyhole) techniques, and the application of biological therapies to enhance tendon healing.
He currently sees private patients at The Coriel Clinic and Park Hill Hospital with the following conditions:
• Shoulder and elbow instability
