Dr Sarah Halawani Montes is a highly experienced Jordanian-American Counselling Psychologist with over 15 years of experience. Dr Montes specialises in working with both teenagers and adults who are facing a wide array of difficulties.
Dr Montes completed Bachelor's degree in Psychology at Al-Ahliyya Amman University, Jordan in 1999 followed by her Master’s degree in Organisational and Social Psychology at the London School of Economics, UK in 2004. She later completed her Doctoral degree in Counselling Psychology at the University of Memphis, USA in 2014 and became licensed as a Counselling Psychologist by the Clinical and Counselling Psychology Board of Jordan (CDA).
Throughout her career, Dr Montes has completed extensive training and gained diverse experience in various clinical settings. Her professional journey has taken her through community mental health centres, hospitals, multiple university counselling centres across the USA, and schools. Having lived in different parts of the world, including Jordan, the UK, the USA, and the UAE, Dr Montes appreciates the richness of multicultural perspectives and values the diverse worldviews of her patients.
Dr Montes' therapeutic approach is characterised by its strength-based and collaborative nature. She understands the importance of forging strong, genuine, and open working relationships with her patients. Her goal is to assist them in addressing their personal challenges and advancing towards their individual therapeutic objectives. Dr Montes aims to alleviate distress, enhance coping strategies, and harness her patients' strengths. She has expertise in a range of approaches, including cognitive behavioural therapy, family systems therapy, humanistic therapy, mindfulness, solution-focused therapy, and interpersonal treatment approaches.
Dr Montes has particular interests in anxiety disorders, mood disorders, perfectionism and imposter syndrome, trauma, grief and loss, interpersonal difficulties, eating concerns, addictions, identity issues, anger management, vocational and career-related concerns, and group counselling.
