Dr Elmer's specialist areas are as follows:

Dr Elmer has expertise in endoscopic, laparoscopic, and robotic surgery. She also uses laser surgery for the treatment of kidney stones and prostatic enlargement.

Dr Elmer qualified in 2005 from the University of Melbourne and completed her fellowship in urology in 2016. She has trained at the New York University with the world's top female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgeons and completed robotic surgical training in Belgium.
Dr Elmer is actively involved in research and has previously worked at the KEMRI Wellcome Trust where she investigated malaria in pregnancy. She has also received a Master of Surgery for her research and presented at international conferences.
