About
Dr Shayan earned his primary medical degree in 2001, after which he gained a fellowship with the Royal Australasian College Surgeons. During this time, Dr Shayan had the opportunity to work with renowned surgeon, Mr Mutimer, at various hospitals including, Royal Melbourne Hospital, The Alfred, and St Vincent's Hospital. He then worked towards his PhD in Molecular Biology, during which he researched lymphoedema and the spread of cancer.
Dr Shayan has since been appointed Director of the St Vincent's Institute O'Brien Institute Department, where he leads research regarding the molecular biology of cancer, tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. He has also published his research has in various academic journals such as Nature, Nature Reviews and Cancer Cell. Dr Shayan also holds the editor position for five international Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery journals.
