Dr Purnima Gondane Sweetman is a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at Clemenceau Medical Center Dubai with over 33 years of experience across India, Oman, and the United Kingdom. She graduated from Government Medical College and Hospital, Nagpur University, in 1990 and obtained a diploma in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in 1991. She practised in India until 1995, then in Oman from 1995 to 2002. She moved to the United Kingdom in 2004, where she worked as a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist until 2023. She also completed a diploma in the Faculty of Sexual and Reproductive Health in the UK in 2008.
Her clinical expertise covers obstetrics and gynaecology, including preconception counselling, high-risk pregnancies, preeclampsia, fetal growth restriction, diabetes and thyroid disorders in pregnancy, clotting and autoimmune disorders in pregnancy, prevention and management of preterm labour, caesarean sections, external cephalic version, perineal tear repair, and postnatal care. She has extensive experience in paediatric and adolescent gynaecology, menstrual disorders, endometriosis, ovarian surgery, laparoscopic procedures, hysteroscopy, endometrial ablation, vaginal surgery, hysterectomy, cosmetic gynaecology, miscarriage management, menopause care, early pregnancy scanning, ectopic pregnancy management, and minor gynaecological procedures.
Dr Sweetman has held leadership roles in labour ward management, clinical audit, perinatal mortality and morbidity, and paediatric and adolescent gynaecology in the UK between 2013 and 2023. She was a principal investigator in a research project on iodine uptake in pregnancy in 2015 and has presented her work at international conferences. She became a Member of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in 2005 and was awarded Fellowship in 2017.
She speaks Arabic, English, Hindi, Marathi, and Urdu.
