Dr Pupalan Iyngkaran is a Consultant Cardiologist specialising in Heart Failure and Cardiac Imaging based in Melbourne. He currently consults at HeartWest Hoppers Crossing, St Albans, Essendon and Roxburgh Park.
He completed his medical degree at the University of Adelaide in 1998 followed by his basic cardiology training at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in 2003 and further general cardiology training at the National Heart Centre in Singapore. He later completed his subspecialty training in echocardiography and general cardiology at Flinders Medical Centre in 2006 and became a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in 2007.
In 2008, Dr Iyngkaran began 2.5 years of research surrounding heart failure and kidney impairment at the Department of Epidemiology and Preventative Medicine at Monash University, gaining expertise in basic science and clinical research during this time. In 2011, he became a Staff Cardiologist at the Royal Darwin Hospital and Alice Springs Hospital where he started 3 ethics approved projects exploring heart failure in indigenous patients. He moved back to Melbourne in 2015 and began working as a Senior Lecturer at Flinders University Northern Territory Medical School. He is also a Senior Lecturer at the University of Notre Dame and a Senior Research Fellow at the Mitchell Institute for Education and Health Policy.
Dr Iyngakran remains active in research despite his busy clinical practice and has received several awards and honours for his work, including: RACP Fellows Contribution Award, Heart Foundation and Health Professionals Fellowship and the Australian Postgraduate Award.
