About Prof Simon Lloyd
Professor Simon Lloyd, Consultant ENT Surgeon is based at Manchester Royal Infirmary and Salford Royal Hospital. He is highly specialised in neuro-otology and skull base surgery, Additionally, he also works as a Professor at the University of Manchester. He qualified in Medicine in 1996, and then proceeded to do his Higher Specialty Training at the Royal Free Hospital School of Medicine, the Royal National Throat Nose and Ear Hospital, Charing Cross Hospital, and Great Ormond Street Hospital. He also undertook specific training for skull base surgery at Addenbrooke's Hospital Cambridge. Following this, he took several prestigious overseas fellowships. He is an active member in many teams including the Manchester Skull Base team, the Manchester Neurofibromatosis type 2 and Paraganglioma (glomus) teams, and the Manchester Auditory Implant team. These teams are the busiest services of their kind found in the UK. His practice is specifically focused on chronic middle ear disease, auditory implantation and diseases of the skull base including acoustic neuromas/vestibular schwannomas. Due to this expansive range of knowledge, he is seen internationally as an expert in his field. He also performs a wide range of general ENT procedures on adults and children including middle ear injection therapy for the treatment of sudden hearing loss and dizziness, and the state of the art surgical techniques including the use of endoscopes and lasers. Prof Lloyd currently holds many important positions including being a council member of the Royal Society of Medicine, Secretary to the British Society of Otology and the British Skull Base Society, and has been made a fellow of the European Academy of Otology and Neurotology. He also has an extensive publication history with numerous publications in well-renowned journals. Most recently, his work for his field has been acknowledged with his being awarded a prize for best research in ear surgery.
