About Prof David Miles

Professor Miles is a consultant oncologist specialising in breast cancer treatment. They trained at University College London and pursued postgraduate education at King's College, University College, and Guy's and St Thomas' Hospitals. Professor Miles completed their doctorate in biological therapy of breast cancer at the Breast Unit of Guy's and St Thomas' Hospital.

Professor Miles has served as the Head of the Breast Cancer Biology Group at Guy's and St Thomas' and as Lead Clinician for breast cancer at Mount Vernon Cancer Centre. They are a Global Principal Investigator in clinical trials of biological therapies in the treatment of breast cancer. Professor Miles also serves on clinical trial steering and independent data monitoring committees for studies of novel therapies for the treatment of breast and other cancers.

Professor Miles advises the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) on the adoption of new drugs being considered for breast cancer. They were invited by NICE to become a member of the committee to produce guidelines for the treatment of early-stage breast cancer and also sit on the NICE quality standards committee. Professor Miles is a module leader and lecturer at the Institute of Cancer Research and lectures internationally. They are an advisor to the charity Breast Cancer Care, a board member of the Cancer Vaccine Institute, and sit on the Central Institutional Review Board of Cancer Research UK.
