Im Laufe seiner beruflichen Karriere war er mehrere Jahre als Oberarzt an der Universitätsklinik für Radiodiagnostik in Innsbruck tätig. Im Jahr 2003 wechselte er an das Sanatorium Kettenbrücke in Innsbruck, wo er maßgeblich am Aufbau der radiologischen Abteilung beteiligt war und diese leitete.
Besonders hervorzuheben ist sein Engagement in der medizinischen Forschung. Dr. med. Springer veröffentlichte zahlreiche wissenschaftliche Arbeiten, die sowohl in Fachvorträgen als auch in Buchpublikationen ihren Niederschlag fanden. Für seine Forschungsarbeit wurde er mit verschiedenen wissenschaftlichen Auszeichnungen und Preisen geehrt.
