Dr Zaitouni earned his Bachelor's degree in Medicine and Surgery from Taibah University in Saudi Arabia. He later achieved the French Board of Cardiology from the University of Amiens-Picardie in France. He further specialised by completing a Canadian Fellowship in Cardiac Electrophysiology at the University of Montreal and the University of Sherbrooke in Canada.
