Mrs Harding-Mackean completed her medical degree at the University of Edinburgh in 1987, followed by her general surgical training in the Manchester and Mersey regions. She became a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow in 1999 and a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 2000. In 2001, she was appointed a full-time consultant general surgeon with a special interest in breast surgery and in 2010, she completed an oncoplastic fellowship at the Institut Curie in Paris. From 2010 onwards, she has focused exclusively on breast and thyroid surgery.
Alongside her clinical practice, Mrs Harding-Mackean holds the role as the principal investigator for several clinical trials, contributing to the advancement of breast cancer care and prevention. She is also actively involved in teaching medical students, trainee surgeons, and allied professionals. She has served as an Honorary Lecturer at the University of Liverpool Medical School and contributed to teaching on various courses, including the Intercollegiate Exam Course for Higher Surgical Trainees and the Cadaveric Skills Course at Manchester Medical School Sim Lab.
