Mr Stephen Bale is a Consultant Orthopaedic who specialises in shoulder surgery. He trained in Orthopaedics in Manchester and between 1990-96 and was a Lecturer in Orthopaedic Surgery at University of Manchester. He worked as the Harry Platt Research Fellow from 1994-1995 and got his appointment as a consultant to Preston in 1996.

He moved to Wrightington Hospital in 2013 to further his career at the well-known and regarded tertiary referral centre.

Mr Bale was also the Director of the North West Regional Training programme from 2007-2012 and was BOTA National Tainer of the Year in 2013. He has sat on the BOA Training Standards Committee, helping to set standards for surgical trainees and wrinting the Curriculum. He was a member of the SAC T&O Committee from 2013- 2019 with liaison responsibility for Northern Ireland, East of Scotland and Defense Medical.

He has been BESS Council Member and Chairman of the BESS Instructional Course Committee.

Bale specialises in Arthroscopic Shoulder Surgery, Dislocations, Instability, Impingement, Rotator Cuff Tears, Frozen Shoulder, Arthritis, Shoulder Replacement, Tendon Transfers and Sports Injuries

He has published and presented widely in his field and lectured and demonstrated techniques world-wide. His particular interests relate to all aspects pertaining to shoulder replacement surgery and the management of implant failure, bone loss and infection.
