About Mr Richard Irving

Mr Richard Irving is a Consultant Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) Surgeon currently working at the private Priory and Edgbaston Hospitals, the Birmingham Children's Hospital and for University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust. He is one of the leading otologists in the UK with specialist interest and expertise in chronic ear disease, tinnitus, balance disorders, acoustic neuroma, glomus jugular tumours, hearing loss and hearing implants. He treats adults and children. Mr Irving attained his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from London University in 1985. He became a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons England in 1991 and attained an MD from London University in 1996. He was a Clinical Instructor in the University of California San Francisco before taking up a Consultant post in the UK in 1997. Mr Irving is a surgeon with academic interest, he lectures and teaches internationally and has published over 100 articles related to disease of the ears. He runs an active research programme and in 2016 was appointed Honorary Professor in Bioengineering at the University of Brunel. He also serves on the Editorial Boards of many international journals. He is currently the Secretary of the British Society for The History of ENT and is a Past President of the British Society of Otology and a Past President of the Royal Society of Medicine Section of Otology.
