About Mr Irshad Shaikh
Mr Irshad Shaikh is a Consultant General and Colorectal Surgeon based at Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital and Spire Norwich Hospital. He obtained his MBBS degree from Karnatak University in 1997 and subsequently completed surgical training in Scotland, followed by higher surgical training on the South East Thames rotation in London. He was awarded an MD (Research) by the University of Aberdeen in 2008 and achieved CCT in General and Colorectal Surgery in 2013. Mr Shaikh completed a one-year RSO fellowship at St Mark's Hospital, followed by a laparoscopic surgery fellowship sponsored by Ethicon in 2014. His specialist training includes management of locally advanced rectal cancer, including pelvic exenteration. He was appointed Consultant at Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital in 2014 and has held an honorary consultant post at St Mark’s Hospital. He leads advanced rectal cancer surgery and is joint lead for anal cancer surgery. He is accredited by the Joint Advisory Group on Gastrointestinal Endoscopy as a national bowel cancer screening endoscopist. He established the robotic colorectal programme at Norfolk and Norwich and is an accredited trainer and proctor for robotic colorectal surgery through European Academy of Robotic Colorectal Surgery. He also teaches on national laparoscopic surgery courses and has published operative techniques in peer-reviewed journals. Mr Shaikh has ongoing research interests in colorectal cancer and robotic surgery, supported by competitive grants. He holds a Master’s degree in Clinical Education from the University of East Anglia and serves as a College Tutor for the Royal College of Surgeons of England. His clinical practice includes anal fistula and fissure surgery, haemorrhoid procedures (including HALO), colorectal and anal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease surgery, rectal prolapse, hernia surgery, and locally advanced pelvic cancer.
