Hakkında
Mr Hywel Davies is a highly experienced Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in all aspects of knee surgery and sports injuries. With over 15 years as a consultant, he holds NHS appointments at the Bristol Royal Infirmar and at the Avon Orthopaedic Centre, Southmead Hospital, where he performs planned elective surgery.
Mr Davies has expertise in the full spectrum of reconstructive knee surgery, managing everything from ligament, cartilage and meniscal injuries to advanced degenerative conditions requiring joint replacement. He performs total knee replacements, revision surgery, and unicompartmental (partial) knee replacements—favouring joint-preserving procedures whenever possible. In addition to his knee specialism, he also undertakes hip joint replacement surgery and maintains an interest in foot and ankle procedures.
He trained in medicine at Charing Cross and Westminster Medical School, graduating from Imperial College London. During medical school, he completed a BSc in Sports Physiology, conducting his thesis at the Institute of Human Performance in Stanmore and the British Olympic Medical Centre. He went on to complete his basic surgical training in London, including a year-long knee research fellowship, before undertaking six years of Orthopaedic Specialist Training on the Bristol rotation.
Alongside his surgical training, Mr Davies completed a Master’s degree in Sports Medicine, spending extended time in specialist clinics and learning from experts in physiotherapy, physiology and psychology.
Following completion of his UK training, he undertook international fellowship training in leading centres abroad. He spent six months at the Adidas Sports Injury Clinic in Auckland, New Zealand, followed by a further six months in Perth, Australia. During these fellowships he refined his skills in arthroscopy, ligament reconstruction and computer-navigated joint replacement, and he continues to visit specialist units worldwide to learn from emerging innovations.
Mr Davies is also committed to teaching and research. He lectures on national courses, serves as an honorary lecturer at the University of Bristol, trains orthopaedic registrars, and teaches medical students and junior doctors. As an active member of the Bristol Knee Group, he contributes to research into surgical outcomes and has published widely, presenting his work nationally and internationally. He is also a reviewer for The Knee journal.
