About
Professor Andrew Davies is a Consultant General and laparoscopic surgeon. He is an Upper GI specialist at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust, where he performs a high volume of stomach and oesophageal surgery. The unit is one of the largest tertiary referral centers for oesophegeal and gastric cancer in the UK. Prof. Davies also sees patients privately, including at The London Bridge Hospital, Spire Clare Park and Nuffield Guildford.
His specialist areas include hernia repair (including open and keyhole surgery techniques), gallstones (cholecystectomy) and acid reflux / gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD - including fundoplication and Linx surgery). Patients can also be assessed for oesophageal or gastric cancer, achalasia and GISTs (Gastro-intestinal stromal tumours). In addition Prof. Davies performs endoscopy and a wide range of general surgery procedures including skin lumps and bumps.
Prof. Davies has a strong academic background with a first class honours BSc, a Masters with distinction and an MD in the staging and management of oesophegeal cancer. He leads the Guy's & St Thomas' Oesophago-gastric research group, is regularly invited to speak at national and international conference and is on the editorial board of the British Journal of Surgery. He sits on the guidelines committee of the international society of diseases of the esophagus (ISDE) and the education committee of the European Society of diseases of the esophagus (ESDE). He is Professor of Surgery at King's College London.
During his higher surgical training in London, Prof. Davies spent time at King's College liver unit, the Royal Marsden and St Thomas' hospitals. During this time he was also awarded two prestigious laparoscopic surgery fellowships to UPMC Pittsburgh, USA and Unitas MC, Pretoria, South Africa.
He is married to a surgeon (Sophie) and has three children. Hobbies include rugby, cricket, golf and skiing.
