He completed his ophthalmic specialty training in London, predominantly at Moorfields Eye Hospital and the Western Eye Hospital; further honing his skills and interest in ophthalmological interventions.

Mr Porteous is particularly interested in glaucoma management. He is experienced in laser procedures for the management of glaucoma, including selective laser trabeculoplasty, YAG laser peripheral iridotomy and MicroPulse transscleral cyclodiode. In addition, he undertakes minimally invasive glaucoma surgery techniques (including iStent) and more traditional filtration surgery; ensuring that there is an intervention that suits all patients that he sees who are suffering from all types of glaucoma- both acute and chronic.

In addition to his expertise in glaucoma treatment, Mr Porteous also is able to undertake cataract surgeries including cataract surgery with premium toric and extended depth of focus intraocular lenses; with great outcomes for his patients.

Mr Porteous is also active in the field of research and is widely published in a number of medical ophthalmic journals. He has also presented at a series of national and international meetings, to large audiences.

Adding to his long list of skills and accolades, Mr Porteous is also a passionate educator, having undertaken an undergraduate teaching fellowship at Moorfields Eye Hospital and a postgraduate certificate in medical education with Dundee University, he has worked hard to ensure that he is equipped with the highest quality skills for education in medicine as well as in clinical practice. He has previously held a position on the Training the Trainers sub-committee at the Royal College of Ophthalmologists.
