He also has extensive research experience - Dr Aslam obtained a doctorate from the University of Bristol and then spent a year at the Children's National Medical Center, Washington, DC as Chief Resident after his UK training. He speaks regularly on advanced paediatric surgery techniques and has a strong interest in education, being current Lead for National Selection registrar appointments and Course Director for Stotz specialist minimal invasive surgical course. Dr Aslam is a Member of the Specialist Advisory Committee for Paediatric Surgery under the Joint Committee on Surgical Training for the Royal College of Surgeons and in addition, Regional Speciality Professional Advisor for its East of England region. He is also an Executive Committee Member of the British Association of Paediatric Endoscopic Surgeons.
