Dr Azam earned his primary medical qualification at Hamdard University, Pakistan in 2001. After this, Dr Azam undertook his Musculoskeletal Oncology fellowship training at the Rizzoli Institute Italy and limb reconstruction, Deformity correction and limb lengthening fellowship training at Istanbul University, Turkey.
Upon completion of his fellowship training, Dr. Azam went on to gain further experience in joint revision surgery in the UK at Freeman Hospital, Newcastle-upon-Tyne. Since his Consultant appointment in Pakistan, Dr Azam has become a member of the Pakistan Orthopaedic Association and the International Society of Limb Salvage. He is a Member and Fellow of the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan.
