About Dr Mehdi Mirzazadeh
Dr Mehdi Mirzazadeh is a Consultant in Metabolic Medicine and Chemical Pathology based in Epsom, with specialist expertise spanning a wide range of metabolic conditions. His clinical interests include metabolic bone disorders such as osteoporosis, metabolic stone disease, lipid disorders including raised cholesterol and triglycerides, medical weight management, the use of novel biological therapies, and the interpretation of complex biochemical investigations. He has a particular specialist interest in rare and inherited metabolic disorders. Dr Mirzazadeh is highly academically accomplished. He holds an MSc in Clinical Biochemistry from King’s College London, an MD from the University of Tehran, an ECFMG certificate from the United States, and a BA in Sociology from Islamic Azad University. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists and a Member of the Royal College of Physicians. He completed his higher specialist training within the prestigious Oxford deanery, followed by further collaborative subspecialty training at University of Cambridge and University College London Hospitals. Dr Mirzazadeh utilises advanced diagnostic tools to deliver highly personalised metabolic care. These include specialised radiological assessments such as Trabecular Bone Score for detailed bone health evaluation, advanced omics technologies including genomics for diagnosing rare and inherited metabolic conditions, and complex biochemical testing. He adopts a holistic and preventative approach, integrating lifestyle factors, nutrition, and overall wellbeing into his management plans, while focusing on early intervention and long-term disease prevention. He is known for his ability to diagnose and manage complex or previously unclear metabolic conditions and places great importance on listening carefully to patients and involving them in shared decision-making. He currently serves as the Clinical Lead for Metabolic Bone Disorders at Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust, where he is also the Laboratory Director for the South West Thames Newborn Screening Service. Alongside his clinical responsibilities, he is actively involved in undergraduate teaching and postgraduate supervision and holds an Honorary Senior Lecturer position at St George’s University of London. In addition, Dr Mirzazadeh acts as an assessor for the UK national clinical biochemistry quality assurance service, NEQAS, where he evaluates specialist laboratory advice across the country on calcium and sodium metabolism, vitamin deficiencies, and endocrine and hormonal disorders. He is widely published and remains committed to advancing metabolic medicine through research, education, and high-quality patient-centred care.
