Mr Maurice O’Flaherty is a highly respected Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon with specialist expertise in complex foot and ankle conditions. He graduated in Medicine from Queen’s University Belfast in 2002, later achieving Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in Trauma and Orthopaedics in 2012. He further advanced his academic training with a Master of Science in Sports and Exercise Medicine from the University of Bath, gaining extensive experience alongside leading clinicians in Premier League football, Rugby Union, and other elite sporting environments.
Mr O’Flaherty began his consultant career in 2013 at the Royal Victoria Hospital and Musgrave Park Hospital in Belfast. During this time, he served on the major trauma team and held the position of Lead Clinician for Foot and Ankle Surgery within the Belfast Trust. His work regularly supports high-level athletes across GAA, Ulster Rugby, Ulster Hockey, NI Netball, and Irish League football, reflecting his deep understanding of sports-related injuries.
Now practising at the UPMC Sports Surgery Clinic, he manages a wide range of foot and ankle issues, including ankle instability, keyhole surgery, sports injuries, achilles tendon disorders, bunions, deformities, heel pain, and arthritis. He also does satellite clinics in UPMC Kildare and AUt Even hospitals.
