Dr Mary McStay is a Consultant Gastroenterologist specialising in endoscopy, inflammatory bowel disease, irritable bowel syndrome and neuroendocrine tumours based in Essex. She currently sees patients at Colchester General Hospital and private patients at Ramsay Oaks Hospital, Colchester.
Dr McStay completed her preclinical medical training at Cambridge University as well as her Honours degree in Pharmacology in 1991. She completed her undergraduate medical training at St Bartholomew's Hospital Medical School, London in 1994. Dr McStay did her specialist training in Gastroenterology in the North East Thames region and spent two years in full time research at the Neuroendocrine Tumour Unit at the Royal Free Hospital. She was awarded her research doctorate of medicine degree for her work by University College London in 2007.
Dr McStay has clinical expertise in all areas of gastroenterology. She has leads the small bowel and colon capsule service at Colchester Hospital and the Neuroendocrine Tumour service at ESNEFT. She is also a bowel cancer screening colonoscopist. She is principal investigator in a number of clinical trials and East of England representative for the British Society of Gastroenterology Clinical Service Standards Committee.
