About Dr Mark Turner
Dr Mark Turner is a consultant cardiologist at Spire Hospital Bristol and Bristol Heart Institute. He specialises in general cardiology and interventional cardiology. His areas of interest are as follows: Valve intervention; • TAVI; Mitralclip; • Adult congenital heart disease; • Congenital intervention; • Heart failure; • Interventional cardiology; • heart valve disease; • PFO closure; • hypertension; • diving medicine Dr Turner specialises in keyhole surgery for holes in the heart and valve disease. He has expertise in TAVI, Mitraclip, paravalvar leak closures as well as all aspects of congenital heart disease intervention, including PFO and ASD closure. A particular specialty of Dr Turner's is diving cardiology, and he is the chairman of the UK diving medical community. He was previously a diving medicine doctor at the Institute of Naval Medicine and the Submarine Escape training tank. Dr Turner has been a consultant since 2005 and gained his medical qualification from Bristol University. Between 1988 and 1998, he was a Royal Navy Medical Officer followed by a Surgeon Lieutenant Commander. He undertook cardiology training in Plymouth, Cardiff, Great Ormond Street Hospital and UCLH Hospitals. Additionally, Dr Turned worked with pioneers of percutaneous valve treatments and is now a trainer of this technique in centres both in the UK and abroad. He has also undertaken extensive research into pacing therapy, particularly in relation to heart failure.
