About
Mr. Kulshrestha was the Clinical Lead and Quality Improvement Lead at the Ophthalmology Department of Leighton Hospital in Crewe from 2019-2024. Under his leadership, the department has embraced innovative technologies and practices, enhancing patient care and outcomes. His subspecialist interests include medical retinal diseases such as diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, uveitis, and retinal vein occlusions. He also offers expertise in treating chronic migraine patients with botulinum toxin therapy.
In addition to his clinical practice, Mr. Kulshrestha is deeply involved in research. He has contributed as a co-investigator in numerous studies focusing on intravitreal medications and dry eye disease. Notably, he served as Principal Investigator for the Inject Study, exploring outcomes of Jetrea for vitreomacular traction, and the Perspective Study, examining ikervis therapy for Sjögren's syndrome.
Mr. Kulshrestha is also an accomplished educator. As Deputy Undergraduate Tutor, he facilitates the medical student curriculum at Leighton Hospital for Manchester and Buckingham medical students. He is an Educational Supervisor and Appraiser, training middle-grade and junior staff, and has provided educational lectures to optometrists locally, nationally, and internationally.
After graduating with an MB ChB from the University of Birmingham in 1992, Mr. Kulshrestha began his medical career in neurology and neurosurgery at the Midland Centre for Neurosurgery and Neurology. His ophthalmology training included roles at the Royal Eye Infirmary in Plymouth, Birmingham and Midland Eye Centre, and as a Lecturer in Ophthalmology at the Bristol Eye Hospital. He completed his specialist registrar rotations in the West Midlands and South Trent regions before becoming a Consultant Ophthalmologist at Leighton Hospital in 2018.
His contributions to ophthalmology extend beyond the clinic, with over 50 publications in peer-reviewed journals, book chapters, and newspaper articles. He has delivered lectures at regional, national, and international levels, including training optometrists in cities like Oslo, Copenhagen, Stockholm, and Helsinki.
