About Dr Lucy Stephenson
Dr Lucy Stephenson is a Consultant Psychiatrist with additional expertise in psychotherapy, ethics, and law. Her practice is built on the belief that mental health difficulties affect the whole person—body, mind, and social world—and she is committed to offering a holistic, supportive approach that integrates medical, psychiatric, and psychotherapeutic perspectives. She studied medicine at University College London before training in psychiatry at the Maudsley Hospital. Alongside her clinical work, she completed degrees in Philosophy and a PhD in Ethics and Law at King’s College London, where she published widely and pioneered Advance Choice Documents for crisis care in collaboration with people diagnosed with bipolar disorder. She later undertook further training in Medical Psychotherapy at the Maudsley Hospital and Lambeth Secondary Care Psychological Therapies Team. Dr Stephenson is highly experienced in the assessment and treatment of a wide range of conditions, including eating disorders, mood disorders, depression, anxiety, stress, burnout, and relationship difficulties. Within the NHS, she works as a Consultant Psychiatrist in the Maudsley Hospital Eating Disorder Service, providing assessments and delivering therapies such as CBT for Eating Disorders and Specialist Supportive Clinical Management. In addition to her clinical role, she contributes to the Complex Life and Death Decisions research group at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience. She is also actively involved in supervising and teaching the next generation of psychiatrists.
"Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions."
