About

Dr Lorna Richards is a Consultant Adult Psychiatrist with nearly 30 years of experience in the NHS and private practice. She provides specialist assessment and treatment for patients with eating disorders, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, trauma-related difficulties and complex psychiatric presentations, seeking a private psychiatrist in London.

She completed specialist psychiatry training at the Royal Free Hospital and South London and Maudsley Hospitals and holds an MA in Medical Ethics and Law from King’s College London.

Dr Richards has particular expertise in eating disorders. She spent 14 years within one of London’s specialist eating disorder services, leading the community service for a decade and later serving as overall Clinical Lead. Alongside her clinical work, she has contributed to national policy and standards in eating disorders through her work with the Royal College of Psychiatrists, NHS England and the Joint Commissioning Panel for Mental Health. She also actively engages with the media to help increase public understanding of eating disorders. Her research has largely been within the eating disorders field. She is also an experienced educator, supervising higher trainees and as a lecturer at University College London. She also provides second opinions and specialist medico-legal assessments.

Dr Richards is known for her calm, thoughtful and thorough approach. She takes a holistic view of mental health, integrating psychological and physical wellbeing and the wider context of each patient’s life. She works closely with patients to develop tailored treatment plans that combine clinical expertise with a clear understanding of individual goals. Personalised interventions are offered in collaboration with a highly experienced multi-disciplinary team including psychologists, therapists and dietitians.

“Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions.”
