About Dr Kirubananthan Nagaratnam
Dr Kiruba Nagaratnam is a consultant in stroke and general medicine at Circle Rehabilitation. After qualifying in 2003, Kiruba worked at Oxford University Hospitals and Sheffield University Hospitals as a trainee physician. He then completed his speciality training in general internal medicine and geriatric medicine, and a Fellowship in Stroke Medicine at the Oxford Deanery. He practices acute stroke medicine, stroke rehabilitation and general medicine. Kiruba has a special interest in stroke prevention, life after stroke and stroke rehabilitation. He is also experienced in the management of complex medical problems in older people. Kiruba works with a wider team at Circle Rehabilitation that includes physiotherapists, clinical psychologists, occupational therapists and rehabilitation physicians. He ensures patients receive a customised treatment plan based on their needs, offering guidance and support along the way. Kiruba is passionate about guiding patients through life after stroke. He regularly runs clinics to advise patients on medication management, while offering guidance and support to deal with the effects and consequences of the stroke. He firmly believes that effective rehabilitation is possible many months after the stroke, and it's vital that loved ones are fully integrated into the treatment plan along the way. In his spare time, Kiruba is a keen artist and landscape photographer. He's actively involved in a community project aimed at the early detection and management of atrial fibrillation, in collaboration with GP alliances and the Oxford Academic Health Science Network as he strongly believes there is so much more that can be done to prevent strokes caused by atrial fibrillation and hypertension.
"Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions."
