Mr Kirk Bowling is a skilled Consultant General Surgeon based at Mount Stuart Hospital and Torbay Hospital South Devon UGI unit. He specialises in laparoscopic upper GI surgery, hernia repair and biliary surgery.

Mr Bowling completed a Medical degree and a medical biochemistry degree at University Wales College of Medicine and Cardiff University respectively. He then undertook surgical training in cardiothoracic surgery, hepatobiliary surgery, neurosurgery, bariatric surgery and oesophagogastric surgery in multiple hospitals within Wales and the West of England. He also received surgical training St Jude Children's Hospital Memphis, USA for a short time.

Currently, Mr Bowling is a trainer on courses for the Royal College of Surgeons in Cardiff, Torbay and Plymouth, with heavy involvement in the development of virtual reality and simulation training within surgery for the UK. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons and the Higher Education Academy, and is a member of the British Medical Association. He is also active in research, with numerous peer-reviewed publications to his credit.

He is currently the President of the British Benign Upper Gastrointestinal Surgical Society and the benign lead on AUGIS council. He is helping to develop patient decision making tools, NICE guidelines and EIDO patient information leaflest nationally to help patients make informed decisions regarding their procedures.

Mr. Bowling is also currently the head of Surgical education for the South West of England and the training programme director for Health Education England for general surgery.
