Osteopathy is a recognised system of manual medicine that recognises the important link between the body's structure and the way it functions. Osteopaths focus on the quality and presentation of a person's joints, muscles, nerves, circulation, connective tissues and organ systems and how these tissues interact and function as a holistic unit. Osteopaths are government registered primary health care practitioners.
Osteopaths are trained to perform standard medical examinations of the musculoskeletal, cardiovascular, respiratory and nervous systems. A range of hands-on approaches are used, including soft tissue work, joint mobilisation and manipulation approaches, various stretching and myofascial techniques alongside exercise, postural movement advice and ergonomic instruction.
