Mr Malhotra ensures that his patients are involved in their care and the decision-making process. He provides his patients with a balanced and honest opinion of their surgical and non-surgical options, which may involve a discussion of complex cases in a multi-disciplinary setting.
Mr Malhotra graduated with honours from the University of Manchester and undertook orthopaedic training in Yorkshire and London. He has completed renowned fellowships in foot and ankle surgery in Australia and the UK. He also undertook a travelling fellowship to Singapore and was awarded a grant from the British Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society (BOFAS) for his fellowship training.
He has trained in a wide variety of areas, including ankle replacements, fusions, arthroscopic surgery, ligament reconstruction, minimally invasive surgery, and treatment of complex neurological conditions affecting the foot and ankle. His training and current practice include both operative and non-operative management of conditions such as bunions, toe deformities, tendon disorders, plantar fasciitis, and arthritis of the foot and ankle.
Having had the opportunity to work with some world-renowned trainers, Mr Malhotra understands the importance of making sure every trainee reaches their maximum potential. He is actively involved in training and leads the junior doctor teaching programme at RNOH. He also runs simulation training and regularly teaches on teaching programmes and exam courses. He also travels internationally to teach on courses and speak at conferences.
Mr Malhotra has a passion for research and has numerous peer-reviewed publications, book chapters, and consensus documents. He is involved in cutting edge research into novel methods of treating arthritis, deformity correction, treatment of neuromuscular disorders, and methods for assessing foot and ankle conditions. He is involved in educational activities and runs quality improvement projects, both locally and nationally. He is also an Honorary Clinical Lecturer at the Department of Ortho and MSK Science at University College London.
Mr Malhotra has achieved multiple prizes throughout his career, including a prize for the best performance on simulation surgery and ‘Best Research Paper'. He also gained first prize for ‘Best International Research Paper' by the European Foot and Ankle Society (EFAS) in 2018 for his work on gastrocnemius tightness, which he later presented at the BOFAS congress in 2019. In 2020, he was awarded the ‘Best Published Paper' award by EFAS for his work on ankle syndesmosis. For 4 consecutive years in 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024 his research won the first prize - ‘Chang Chen Best Paper award' at BOFAS, and in 2022 his work won the second prize as well. In 2023 his work won a total of 3 first prizes at various national and international conferences include the Presidential Prize by the European Foot & Ankle Society. In 2025 his work won Best Paper at EFAS. He won the Best Surgical Tip / Trick Prize at BOFAS for 3 consecutive years in 2024, 2025 (Jan) and 2025 (Nov).
In his free time, Mr Malhotra enjoys photography, digital art, graphic design, and keeping up to date with technology.
