Prof. Dr. med. Frank Kandziora ist Chefarzt des Zentrums für Wirbelsäulen- und Neurochirurgie an der BG Unfallklinik Frankfurt am Main. Er ist Facharzt für Chirurgie, Orthopädie und Unfallchirurgie mit den Zusatzbezeichnungen Spezielle Unfallchirurgie und Sportmedizin.

Er wird seit der ersten Ausgabe in der Ärzteliste von „FOCUS Gesundheit“ geführt und wurde dort mehrfach als TOP-Mediziner im Bereich Wirbelsäulenchirurgie ausgezeichnet. Auch das Magazin „Stern“ bestätigt ihn als einen der besten Wirbelsäulenspezialisten in Deutschlands.

Das Zentrum für Wirbelsäulen- und Neurochirurgie, das er seit 2008 an der BG Unfallklinik Frankfurt leitet, ist sowohl von der Deutschen Wirbelsäulengesellschaft (DWG) als Wirbelsäulenzentrum der Maximalversorgung (Level I) als auch von EUROSPINE als Surgical Spine Centre of Excellence für alle Erkrankungen der Wirbelsäule zertifiziert. Darüber hinaus wurde von der AOSpine als Reference Center für exzellente Qualität ausgezeichnet. Das Zentrum ist zudem ein anerkanntes Ausbildungszentrum für internationale Wirbelsäulenchirurgen in Zusammenarbeit mit AOSpine und EUROSPINE.

Nach seinem Medizinstudium an der Goethe Universität in Frankfurt arbeitete Prof. Kandziora zunächst an der orthopädischen Universitätsklinik Frankfurt bevor er an das Klinikum Charité der Humboldt Universität nach Berlin wechselte. Dort beendete er seine Facharztausbildungen als Chirurg, Unfallchirurg und Orthopäde und habilitierte im Fachgebiet Unfallchirurgie / Orthopädie. Zuletzt war er dort als Leiter des Wirbelsäulenzentrums am Campus Virchow Klinikum der Charité tätig. Im Januar 2008 wechselte er als Chefarzt des interdisziplinären Zentrums für Wirbelsäulenchirurgie und Neurotraumatologie an die BG Unfallklinik Frankfurt.

Neben seiner klinischen Tätigkeit engagiert sich Prof. Kandziora ehrenamtlich in den Vorständen und Aufsichtsräten verschiedenen Fachgesellschaften, Stiftungen und Wohltätigkeitsorganisationen. Er war Präsident der Deutschen Wirbelsäulengesellschaft (DWG) und der Europäischen Wirbelsäulengesellschaft (EUROSPINE) sowie Leiter von Expertengruppen der AOSpine. Außerdem war er Vorsitzender der Europäischen- und Deutschen-Wirbelsäulenstiftung. Für seine wissenschaftlichen Arbeiten erhielt er mehrere Auszeichnungen, darunter den Hans-Liniger-Preis, den Ferdinand-Sauerbruch-Preis und den Mario-Boni-Award. Im Jahr 2021 wurde er mit dem Innovationspreis der AO Technical Commission ausgezeichnet. Er hat zahlreiche nationale und internationale Kongresse organisiert z. B. deutschen Wirbelsäulenkongress 2020, EUROSPINE 2023).

Seine wissenschaftliche Arbeit umfasst ca. 250 in PubMed gelistete Publikationen https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/?term=kandziora+frank, mehr als 1000 wissenschaftliche Vorträge und er ist regelmäßig als geladener Gastredner auf internationalen Kongressen tätig. Zudem ist er Herausgeber oder Rubriken-Herausgeber verschiedener wissenschaftlicher Fachjournale, darunter Brain and Spine, Die Wirbelsäule, Zeitschrift für Orthopädie und Unfallchirurgie und O&Up2Date.

Das Zentrum für Wirbelsäulen- und Neurochirurgie ist auf die Akutversorgung und Rehabilitation schwerverletzter und berufserkrankter Menschen spezialisiert. Prof. Dr. Frank Kandziora Spezialgebiet ist die Behandlung von komplexen Wirbelsäulenverletzungen, aller Verletzungsfolgen wie zum Beispiel Fehlstellungen und die Behandlung von degenerativen Erkrankungen der Wirbelsäule.
